“The Girl from Ipanema,” a beloved song cherished by jazz enthusiasts worldwide. But who is behind the inspiration for the tune? Let’s introduce Helo Pinheiro: the real Girl from Ipanema, the muse who fueled the creation of this iconic song from 1962. At 17, Pinheiro became the ultimate inspiration for the famous Bossa Nova jazz composition. This musical magic happened when composer Antônio Carlos Jobim and poet Vinicius de Moraes spotted the young woman in bikini, “tall and tan and lovely”, strolling on a Rio de Janeiro beach in 1962.

In 1984, years after the song’s release, Pinheiro graced the pages of Brazilian Playboy as a Playmate. In 2003, she posed again, this time with her daughter, Ticiane Pinheiro. In 2016, at the age of 71, Pinheiro visited her beloved beach spot and took on the honorable role of torchbearer for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
