Kakum National Park Canopy Walkway (Ghana)
The highlight of Kakum National Park in Ghana is undoubtedly its canopy walkway. This massive bridge stretches 350m in length and reaches a maximum height of 40m. Fun fact: Apparently, there are only two canopy walkways in all of Africa, and this one is located in Kakum National Park. A distinctive feature is its narrowness – wide enough for only one person to pass at a time. Passing someone going the other way is definitely out of the question. By the way, someone who actually crossed it commented that the swaying was scarier than the height.
Nevertheless, the view from the bridge is unparalleled, making you feel like you’re in the world of Jurassic Park. You wouldn’t be surprised to see a Tyrannosaurus Rex peeking out from between the trees. As for safety, the ropes are inspected and replaced every six months, so it’s supposedly very safe. However, whether that’s entirely true is anyone’s guess, so crossing it is quite thrilling. Just try not to jump around in excitement if you happen to spot a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
