Lime Pit Worker

Lime pit workers dug and processed limestone for agricultural and construction uses. The work was dirty, dusty, and hazardous, as inhaling lime dust could cause respiratory issues and lime pits were prone to collapses.

Despite the dangers, lime was essential for many industries. Mechanized mining and safety regulations phased out manual lime pit work, transforming this tough profession into a piece of industrial history.
