Lamplighter

Before electricity brightened city streets, lamplighters were vital to urban life, lighting and extinguishing gas lamps every day. Their work required long hours and physical stamina, often climbing ladders in poor weather to light each lamp individually at dusk and douse them at dawn.

Besides the risks of falls and burns, lamplighters were beloved neighborhood figures, often recognized by residents as they made their rounds. However, with the advent of electric streetlights, this poetic yet dangerous profession quietly disappeared, leaving only nostalgic memories of a softly glowing past.
