A vintage camping lantern might look cool, but if it contains any trace of fuel, it is a major fire hazard. A passenger at San Diego International Airport was stopped for trying to check a lantern that still smelled of kerosene.

Fuel-burning items are prohibited from all luggage because of the risk of combustion in the cargo hold. Unless the lantern is brand new and has never touched fuel, it’s going to stay on the ground.
