40. Vasovagal Techniques to remedy SVT.
Supraventricular Tachycardia is called so because on an ECG the heart is beating so fast the electrical signal origin is imperceptible.
So medically we can do a few things to slow your heart like shock it back into rhythm with synchronized cardioversion, give you medications such as adenosine which stops the heart momentarily in the hopes it returns to it’s normal rate, or you can pretend you’re taking a big shit and hold your breath and push.
That’s why they’re my favorite, the number of times we’ve either told people to do that or to blow into a syringe that you tape the plunger down, they feel ridiculous while doing them, but it’s awesome when you watch their rhythm change right in front of you. They’re not always effective and that’s why we have other means of treatment.
