The Eshima Ohashi Bridge, stretching 1,446.2 meters, connects Yatsuka-cho, Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, with Totcho, Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture. This bridge is also known as the “Beta-fumi-zaka” (Accelerator-pedal-to-the-metal slope) due to its steep incline. When viewed from the ground, the visual angle appears to be 45 degrees, giving the illusion that cars are falling from the sky, but there’s actually more to it than meets the eye.

Driving across the Eshima Ohashi Bridge is surprisingly ordinary and smooth. If you use your camera’s zoom from the bottom of the slope on the Shimane Prefecture side, it looks incredibly steep, but it’s actually just an optical illusion. However, on a clear day, you can enjoy a magnificent view of Mount Daisen and Daikon Island floating on Lake Nakaumi from the bridge. These are famous as leading tourist spots representing Shimane Prefecture.
