The meme starts with a kid in red asking a kid in blue what he’s going to ask Santa for. The blue kid responds that his mom says Santa isn’t real—which is true. The red kid, however, takes offense and retorts that his mom says the blue kid isn’t real, as a sort of counterproof that moms aren’t always right. At first glance, it seems like the red kid is just making a snappy comeback at the blue kid.
But in the next panel, we see the red kid alone in a room while a doctor observes him from outside. This reveals that the red kid is actually suffering from schizophrenia, which can cause visual hallucinations of people and objects that aren’t really there. In other words, the blue kid only exists in the red kid’s mind, and the statement from his mom—that the blue kid isn’t real—is actually true. The meme cleverly combines humor with a subtle commentary on perception and reality.
