Fish Ban on the Metro
At the “Palm Deira” metro station in Dubai, there’s an unusual sign: a fish inside a red prohibition symbol. Many think it’s a joke – but it actually has a serious reason. Animals, even dead ones, are not allowed on the train.
Since there’s a large fish market nearby, the authorities wanted to prevent the train from smelling of fish. A curious, but somehow logical detail – typical of Dubai: even the subway has its extravagant rules.
