#7: Tilapia Industry

Tilapia, one of the oldest farmed fish in history, is praised for its rapid growth and ability to thrive in crowded farming conditions. It’s now a global staple, consumed in over 130 countries. But not all tilapia is created equal.

According to the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch, only three countries meet strict healthy, responsibly raised fish standards. Chinese tilapia, in particular, raises red flags due to reports of polluted farming waters and the use of illegal antibiotics, making its safety a growing concern for consumers worldwide.
