#15: TV Systems in Vehicles
In a detail that might astonish Western motorists, many Japanese cars feature navigation systems that double as live television screens. As Hiromitsu Kimura of Pioneer Corp. told The Wall Street Journal, these built-in TV tuners allow passengers—and sometimes even drivers—to catch a show while on the move.
While this might sound reckless, Japan’s famously disciplined driving culture and slow urban traffic make it more acceptable under strict regulations. The screens are typically configured to disable video playback when the car is moving, unless manually overridden.
