Preparations


The next week passed in a whirlwind of activity. Rebecca found herself reluctantly caught up in the planning—buying hiking boots, prepping snacks, and checking the weather—all while trying to ignore the knot of anxiety in her chest.

She kept telling herself this hike might be a good thing, a way to grow closer to Andrew’s family. Maybe she could even mend the awkwardness with Anna and finally see her in a different light. But the hope felt flimsy, like a mask stretched too thin.
